David Curtis is a member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He is one of the UK’s most successful and best known artists.

TRAVELLING ARTIST – Take yourself out of your comfort zone!

No two subjects are ever the same so why paint them so? For many years I painted the same familiar subjects, it was not until I travelled so widely that I truly discovered a clearer understanding of and the finer attributes of painting, in particular the importance of painting direct from life.

Charles Warren Mundy has been awarded as Master Signature Member for the Oil Painters of America and he has also received Master Status at the American Impressionist Society.

How long has art been part of your life?

It’s hard to remember a “start”. I’ve gone through so many stages – all the while keeping my easel painting going until I could finally devote all my time to it!

Painting can certainly seem like a solitary experience. But it’s not. Because of people like Doug. Doug is my delivery person.

When did you first start painting?

I started to paint and draw when I was 3 years old, but didn’t know that I would be an artist then. I painted unconsciously, on a subconscious level, on a whim. I didn’t try to do something like everyone else, I just expressed my feelings through painting 
and drawing.
