Artist Spotlight: Charles McHugh

Professional Artist Charles McHugh spent just over 37 years in the Royal Air Force flying helicopters; a dream come true after a childhood in which aeroplanes were the only interest that he embraced.     He was a Glider Pilot at age 16 and joined the RAF just shy of his 18th birthday.   His natural ability to draw and paint was recognised and nurtured at Grammar School but in a free spirited or reproduction way using poster paint, and technique was never taught; meaning that his artistic creation skills are all self taught over decades. In 1980 he found himself based in Germany where he embraced the advice of an established Artist to purchase good quality oil paints and study methodology and technique which he did and soon he had a self-sustaining hobby as his work sold for modest…

Tisch Daggers by Celeste Duffy

Are Rosemary & Co Tisch Dagger Oil Brushes Worth It? If you’ve scrolled through art forums, art blogs, or even Instagram reels, you’ve probably heard about or even desire Rosemary & Co paintbrushes. Me too! For years, I hesitated to order. They felt like one of those “too-good-to-be-true” products that might be more hype than substance—plus, ordering from the UK seemed like an extra layer of effort and expense. But here’s the truth, or at least what I found after finally taking the plunge: with regards to their oil painting Tisch collection (long-handled dagger brushes), the hype is absolutely earned. These brushes are worth every penny, every bit of shipping, and every ounce of painterly joy they unlock. First Impressions: Beauty in the Hand Let’s not pretend the physical beauty of tools doesn’t matter—it does. These brushes are simply gorgeous.…

Artist Spotlight: Jack Browning

Jack Browning (b. 1997, London, England) is a contemporary painter and musician whose distinctive interpretations of Western culture resonate through authentic portrayals rooted in personal relationships and cross-cultural experiences. Initially focused on traditional realism, Jack refined his approach toward expressive figurative painting after studying with renowned artists, notably Joshua LaRock, whose mentorship deeply influenced his use of color and dynamic composition. Jack’s transatlantic perspective, shaped by music tours, extensive research, and friendships across the American West, allows him to thoughtfully reinterpret classic Western imagery, moving beyond stereotypes toward genuine representation. His cinematic color palettes—ochre-infused blues reminiscent of vintage film—highlight his fascination with how the West has traditionally been perceived through media, while simultaneously celebrating contemporary narratives. Jack’s international recognition includes selection for the prestigious Society of Graphic Fine Art Exhibition in London, and his notable inclusion in the Taos Art…

Nicola Dale’s Brushes

"Whenever I tell people I'm an artist, they usually reply: “What do you paint?” and I feel a rising sense of confusion as I respond, “Oh, I don’t paint at all…” (That’s not to say I don’t like painting. A successful painting is always magical: how amazing it is that this gloopy, sticky, unruly stuff transforms into image, idea, feeling. At school, I imagined that if I became an artist, I would surely be a painter?! At that time, painting and drawing were all I really knew. But that’s not how things turned out. As I moved into higher education, I realised very quickly that I was not a painter at all. My skills lie elsewhere.) “…I work in the crevice between sculpture and performance.” Another way of saying this is: I’m interested in how people, objects and actions come…
