SUMMARY:Nick Alm: Portrait and Figure Workshop 2022
DESCRIPTION:We are over the moon to welcome world renowned painter\, Nick Alm to Yorkshire in August 2022… two years later than planned! \nThe workshop will take place from Monday 15-19th of August 2022. This was rescheduled from the cancelled 2020 workshop and 2021. \nWe recommend if you are flying long haul\, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed. \nThe model fee is included in this workshop fee. The model will start at 9am and finish at 5pm each day\, breaking for a 1 hour lunch.  \nYou will need to bring with you a compact easel to paint from. You will be sent a materials list shortly after signing up\, giving you plenty of time to get what is required for the course. Needless to say\, you can purchase many things from our showroom including the brushes Nick uses – however\, we do not sell panels and I don’t have spare easels. \nWe have 5 rooms at our on-site accommodation. This always sells first\, and it is first-come\, first served. Full payment is needed for the accommodation\, and the same rule for refunds applies to the accommodation. You can see all of these terms and conditions below the signup button. We have also introduced a code of conduct policy for 2020. Please familiarise yourself with this before signing up. DESCRIPTION:We’re beyond excited to welcome one of the most fantastic Master Painters\, and close personal friend to Rosemary and Symi….Kathy Anderson back to Yorkshire for a third time in 2020! Starting on the 1st-5th of August 2022. This workshop has been postponed from 2020 & then 2021! \nWe are eager to all be together for 2022. \nThe workshop will be different to those ran by Kathy in the past since it’s the same dates as fellow close friend and fabulous Master painter\, Daniel J. DESCRIPTION:Learn to paint the portrait from the model. \nWe are excited to welcome the wonderful Alex Venezia to Yorkshire\, with his debut workshop in June 2022. \nWe recommend if you are flying long haul\, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed. \nThe course will start at 9am and each day we will paint until 5pm. We will break for 1 hour each lunchtime. Please arrive at 8.45am each day (location will be the Rosemary & Co workshop in Yorkshire\, England). \nIn the mornings\, Alex will demonstrate and in the afternoons\, you will paint and Alex will go around individually and offer critique. \nThroughout the 5 days we will work on the portrait\, from the same model. The model fee is included in this workshop fee. The model will start at 9am and finish at 5pm each day\, breaking for a 1 hour lunch. \nAlex’s method will be indirect\, working in layers\, rather than the Alla Prima style. Alex will provide ample critique and you will also see a finished demonstration by the end of the workshop. \nOne evening there will be a demonstration by Alex\, painting his wife who is also a painter and will be joining us for the workshop\, Divya Melaluca. Divya has been Alex’s main muse for his recent debut solo show at Arcadia Gallery in Pasadena\, California. \nYou will need to bring with you a compact easel to paint from. You will be sent a materials list towards the end of 2021\, giving you plenty of time to get what is required for the course. SUMMARY:Lori Putnam - Staithes 2022
DESCRIPTION:We’re heading back to Staithes with the wonderful Lori Putnam for 2022! This will be Lori’s third workshop with us – and what can I say? She is an incredible teacher. \nIn 2019 we hosted our first workshop on the coastline of Yorkshire with Lori and it was such a success we have decided to host another! \nThis is a 5 day workshop from the 6-10th of June 2022. Accommodation is included in this workshop. \nWe recommend if you are flying long haul\, you come in a couple of days earlier and stay a day or so later so you can rest and not feel rushed. You will need to make your own way to Staithes from Manchester Airport (recommended airport to fly into). I can arrange a taxi for you\, but you’d be best looking for the trains from the airport to Saltburn on Sea. I can assure you\, the trip is well worth it. Trains are the least expensive way to get there unless there’s two of you and in which case I would recommend sharing a taxi. \nDuring the workshop we will be based in the beautiful\, quaint village of Staithes. We will spend a good amount of time painting there. We will also spend time in the neighbouring village of Runswick Bay. \nThis workshop will include demonstrations and lessons\, as well as both individual and group assignments and critiques. \nOne of the evenings we will have a top notch cook come into our accommodation and cook a beautiful meal for us. This is included in the course fee. We did this last time and it was a big hit. We also make all of your lunches (lunch box style) and breakfast each day! This is included in the course price. For evening meals\, we will go out and eat together most evenings at the local pubs in Staithes. \nYou don’t need transport for the workshop. If I’m heading to the supermarket and you need something\, I can happily get it for you. Also\, when we do travel to Runswick Bay\, we will have enough folks with cars to share. \nAccommodation is covered in the fee\, and I have found the most perfect spot for us to all stay and share the experience. The accommodation covers 5 nights of the workshop. If you’d like additional nights\, let me know and I can arrange that for you (it will cost per night\, but it can be done). The accommodation is pre-chosen before you arrive – and I must let you know that Staithes is an old English village. Please don’t expect Uber here! It’s lucky they now take credit cards! The water might come slower than you are used to\, and the door might creak a little… but trust me\, this place is just simply beautiful. The accommodation has a large shared dining room and lounge\, which also doubles up as somewhere for us to take shelter should it rain. \nThis workshop is honestly a joy to run\, and I hope you will join myself and Lori. We’ve done enough workshops between us now to know how to make this one of the best painting weeks of your life. You can bring your own photos to the workshop and work from those\, or you can work from the material Henrik will provide. \nYou will need to bring with you a compact easel to paint from. We’ll have models in historical costumes\, and we’ll even have a new plein air day on the streets of this historic old town. \nThe convention will be held within Colonial Williamsburg at the classic Williamsburg Inn\, which is one block from the old town and right next door to the museum\, which houses many very important paintings from the Colonial era. \nJust an 8-hour train trip from New York City and easy driving distance from most of the Northeast Corridor\, Williamsburg offers space to expand the convention — and we already have double the number of registrations we had this time last year.” – Eric Rhoades\, 2019

SUMMARY:MICHAEL JOHN ANGEL - VERMEER WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:Rosemary & Co are hosting a 5 day indoor Master Workshop on How to Paint a Vermeer with maestro\, Michael John Angel from the 21st – 25th August 2019.\n\n\n\n\nJohannes Vermeer was known as “The Sphinx of Delft” because so little was known of him and his painting methods. However\, a tonne of research has been done over the last 15 years\, and we now know how his paintings were constructed. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn how to recreate these luminous paintings that seem to be full of air and light. Under maestro Angel’s instruction\, you will learn about Vermeer’s attitude to edges and how to build the illusion of form. You will also learn how Vermeer used glazes to give the impression that the painting is more vibrant than Nature. \nCopying master paintings under instruction is the fastest way to learn\, and the surest way for a painter to improve. Vermeer’s paintings are small\, and the students will be painting them actual size. \nMaestro Michael John Angel gives several painting demonstrations throughout the 5 days and teaches the class how to stay in control of the drawing while developing the colour. \nStudents also receive various pdf and jpeg send-outs that encapsulate the correct methods of using oil paint. These send-outs explain the different grounds\, materials and mediums used in oil painting and also describe the various layers used in traditional underpainting-overpainting techniques. \nA short biography of Mr Angel can be found on the Angel Academy’s website. He is listed in the Art Renewal Center’s Living Masters gallery\, and has served as a judge for several national and international competitions\, including the ARC International Salon competition (four times)\, the IlluXCon international competition\, and the Portrait So- ciety of Canada (three times). He has also served as judge for la Collection Beaux-Arts Réaliste\, 2014. \n\n\n\n\n\nDuring the 5 days you will be provided with lunch and refreshments each day. We will need to know dietary requirements ahead of time. You will meet at the Rosemary & Co workshop each morning and on the first day to settle you all in you will be painting in Rosemary’s orangery. Michael John Angel will have dinner with you in the gardens one evening ( included ) and on another evening he will paint for you whilst you are invited to sit and watch\, learn and take notes – this is also open to a limited amount of the general public but your seat is included and you will have priority seating. There will also be refreshments available ( included ).\n\nWe have onsite accomodation available at The Maltings. DESCRIPTION:Rosemary & Co are hosting Stephanie Birdsall to teach a 5 day Botanical workshop in Oils and will be hosted at the grounds of Rosemary & Co in the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. \nThroughout the 5 days we will paint within Rosemary’s garden\, travel to the local allotments and possibly venture to Mrs Woolers garden. If the weather isn’t suitable to paint outdoors\, we will paint in Rosemary’s orangery. Please note that this is intended to be an outdoor Plein Air workshop though. \nYou must be able to carry your own things! Make sure you bring compact Plein Air equipment. I can’t carry things for you all! Make sure you wear the correct outdoor walking shoes too! \nThe price of this includes a packed lunch each day (more information to follow upon sign up)\, x2 evenings with food covered. One evening will be a welcome meal in Rosemary’s garden and the other will be the end of the workshop with Stephanie where wine and hors-d’oeuvres will be served.\n\nWe have on-site self catering accommodation which is also based on ‘first come – first served’. You would need to book this at the same time as the workshop if you wanted to secure your room. Please let me know if you’d like to proceed with booking and I’ll help you secure a place. SUMMARY:LORI PUTNAM - YORKSHIRE COAST MASTER WORKSHOP
DESCRIPTION:Rosemary & Co are hosting a 5 day outdoor Plein Air Master Workshop on the East Coast of Yorkshire with Lori Putnam from the 5th – 9th June 2019. \nWe had so many people that were disappointed to miss Lori’s workshop in 2018\, we’ve decided to host another workshop with Lori in 2019. Lori’s going to take a break from teaching in 2020. \nThroughout the 5 days we will travel each day to different painting spots on the East Coast of Yorkshire\, including Whitby\, Runswick Bay and Staithes. We will make sure there’s plenty of variety! You will be required to walk – and carry your own things! Make sure you bring compact Plein Air equipment. I can’t carry things for you all! Make sure you wear the correct outdoor walking shoes too! \nMore information and an itinery will be sent with full addresses of meeting points and locations to paint each day nearer to the workshop. Everywhere around that area is beautiful to paint\, trust me! \nI will also help people with accomodation choices nearer to the time. This autumn I will head over to the coast and find a nice spot with plenty of B&B’s\, hotels and so on so that we can all stay in the same village if we’d like too. \nYou will need your own transport\, but please do not worry about that at this stage. Between a few of us\, we should have enough cars to car share. Please let me know on sign up if you need to car share. Although this is not included in the price\, if we can work it so we all share lifts\, then that will save people hiring extra cars\, and you can help the driver with petrol etc on your own. \nPacked lunches will be included in this workshop. You must let me know ahead of time if you have any dietary requirements. \nWe will host an evening meal for everyone one night. Non painting partners are welcome to join for an extra £15 for food and drink. \nI will bring brushes\, gamsol\, paper towels and some paints to sell throughout the week. Since we will not be located at the workshop\, supplies will be limited and I will need to know ahead of time if you need me to bring anything specifically. I will bring the bargain basket!! \nEach morning we will go out and paint early! Lori will give demonstrations thoughout the week\, and offer one-on-one advice each day to the students. \nI’ll send materials lists upon sign up\, and also the itinery at a later stage. \nGet signed up! Our sponsorship is confirmed and we will be there with lots of brushes! \nPainting the figure takes on many forms\, from classical academic realism to looser\, brushier representations. It’s time the figure received its own conference\, a place for museum-quality figure painters — and those who strive to be — to gather to exchange ideas\, learn from great masters\, improve their painting skills\, and form a community to carry the flag for realism. \nHeld on the East Coast of the United States at the prestigious and historic Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables (Miami)\, Florida\, the first annual Figurative Art Convention & Expo (FACE) is designed to be hands-on; attendees can paint\, grow\, and become inspired in a fun\, non-stuffy environment. The Expo Hall will provide vendors who serve the figurative art community. \nThe event is created by Fine Art Connoisseur magazine\, and hosted by Editor Peter Trippi and Publisher Eric Rhoads.
